PREVIEW: CHELSEA VS BARCELONA ROUND OF 16 (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)By Santhosh Kumar
December 17, 2018
Another night, another opponent. This time the Catalan heavyweights visiting Stamford bridge. This round of 16 UEFA champions league fixtures sees Barcelona visit Chelsea. A controversial yet mouthwatering game. The main thing which comes to mind when these two teams face off is the heartbreak goal from Andreas Iniesta for Barcelona in the 2009-2010 season and the revenge goal from Fernando Torres for Chelsea in 2011-2012. Chelsea went to win the cup that year.
Chelsea who is having a Bamboozled season till now will look into this fixture as a redemption for all that has happened in the season till now. They will look up to their star players to step up the game and help them win this tie. A good fact that the blues will look up to will be their form against the Catalan giants. They have not lost against Barcelona in the last seven matches home and away. But most of the matches were drawn. They will look to make it a win this evening. Their spearhead Hazard is in impeccable form and he’ll look to score and take the blues deep into the premier competition.
Barcelona, on the other hand, is having a great season. Top of the Spanish league, in the final of the Copa del Rey and they, will look to be in the final of the Champions league too. Their strikers are firing on all cylinders. Even their new signing Philip Coutinho has opened his account for the club. They will look to put their recent form to bed against the blues by winning and moving onto the next round. Lionel Messi especially will look to score against Chelsea as the blues are one of the rarest teams that the Argentinian wizard has never scored against. He will be raring to get the name on the score sheet.
Stanford bridge is a great place to play football at night and this game should be one great fixture where there should be lots of world-class players showing their skills and looking to win it for their team.
CHELSEA (3-4-3) :
Courtois; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; Moses, Kanté, Fàbregas, Alonso; Pedro, Morata, Hazard
BARCELONA (4-4-2) :
Ter Stegen; Roberto, Piqué, Umtiti, Alba; Rakitic, Paulinho, Busquets, Iniesta; Messi, Suárez
We should Chelsea putting up a good fight, some rigid defending mentored by Conte. But Barcelona with the current form they are in is too tough to stop. It should be one crazy fixture for everyone but at the end of the day, I would bet on Barcelona to go through.
BARCELONA to win the match 2-1 and win the tie 4-2.
