Preview: Emirates FA Cup Final ( Chelsea vs Manchester United )By Santhosh Kumar
December 19, 2018
As England saw the Champions crowned last week, the awe of the team that broke all the records to win it has still not gotten off. However, everything is not over for the season. We have one more final, a battle to be crowned the champion of the oldest known cup competition. Today, Wembley will see a sea of Red and Blue fans racked up as Chelsea face Manchester United in the Emirates FA cup final.
The champions of England to a fifth-place finish in the league next season. Such is the inconsistency with Chelsea this season. They never showed the commitment and the not hesitating to put everything on the line mindset was never there this season. Their only salvation this season should be winning the FA Cup. Manager Antonio Conte cannot make any more mistakes as it’s now or it’s never. Similarly, the more senior players in the squad need to step up and play how Chelsea plays, rather than like a minnow team who can’t defend.
Manchester United erstwhile, have had a good season overall finishing runners-up in the league. Although they haven’t played the flamboyant football they used to play, there are solid in defence and leak fewer goals, all thanks to the ex-Chelsea boss now at the helm at Old Trafford, Mr. Jose Mourinho. However, a team like Manchester United cannot settle with a runner-up place in the league. They would want a cup win to make sure the season finishes well. Jose Mourinho will be looking to win this match against his old club more than anything.
Courtois | Azpilicueta, Christiansen, Rudiger | Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso | Willian, Giroud, Hazard.
MANCHESTER UNITED: (4-3-3)
De Gea | Lindelöf, Smalling, Young, Valencia | Pogba, Herrera, Matiç | Sanchez, Lukaku, Rashford.
PREDICTION & KICK-OFF:
This is gonna be a tough fixture. A tight match to be exact. Both these teams have a good defence and very good goalkeepers. Mourinho has the advantage over Conte and Conte already lost this cup last year to Arsenal. Manchester United will have the upper hand but I sense a Chelsea win for all the mishappenings this season. I vouch for a Chelsea to win the cup today.
Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United.
The match is played in the iconic Wembley Stadium and is set to kick off at 5.15 pm UK time and 9.45 pm IST.
