Preview: Southampton vs. Chelsea ( Premier League )By Santhosh Kumar
October 16, 2018
On a gloomy English Afternoon, Southampton welcome Chelsea for this crucial Premier League fixture. Personally, it’s kind of a make or break for both teams. One team, looking a complete shadow of them from last year. The other into the relegation battle.
The saints, who used to be a mid-table team with some good upcoming talent are now 18th in the Premier League. They have won only 5 games in the league this entire season. Their defense has become one of the most vulnerable in the league, leaking 1.56 goals a game on average. They have not played particularly well against Chelsea too. Their last win against the blues came in March 2013, a 2-1 home victory. The Saints are desperate for 3 points to have a breathing space at the bottom of the table. They’ll look to get a point off this game at the utmost.
The Champions, in the meantime, are having a mediocre season. Only with six wins in the whole of 2018 means, they are in serious trouble. Potentially out of the top 4, their only hope is to win every match from now on and hope Tottenham lose points. The blues amidst all the controversy with the manager would look to finish the season high. I really hope their front men start firing as it matters now more than ever. A win against the struggling Saints would be very good as they can build on this and do well in the upcoming fixtures.
Forster | Hoedt, Pied, Yoshida | Romeu, Redmond, Soares, Bertrand | Ward-Prowse, Austin, Tadic.
Courtois | Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger | Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso | Willian, Giroud, Hazard.
PREDICTIONS AND KICK OFF TIME:
Two teams at different ends of the table, but fighting, for one thing, to move up their position. This should be a good contest, the Saints will look to a grab a point somehow, but I hope Chelsea take the victory. I go with a Chelsea win.
Southampton 0-2 Chelsea.
The match kicks off at 12.30 pm UK Time and 5.00 pm Indian time in the St. Mary’s stadium on April 14.
